Dr Gerald O’Connor qualified with honours from University College Cork in 1998, where he achieved his Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree and was awarded the Kerr Prize for Restorative Dentistry.
Following his qualification, he spent 6 years gaining experience in a dental clinic in Essex before buying his own practice in 2004. Dr O’Connor quickly added a second location in 2006 and formed the Oak Dental Group.
After returning to Ireland in 2013, he set up Killiney Dental with his long-time partner Rosemarie. Following this, he began a 3-year programme in Endodontics at the University of Chester and was subsequently awarded a distinction Masters of Science degree in Endodontology.
Gerald’s approach to endodontics is simple – he believes that your own natural tooth is superior to any dental implant once it has long-term restorability and adequate bone support. He works solely with the aid of a microscope for both surgical and non-surgical treatments and employs small volume CBCT scans, when indicated, as an aid to diagnosis.
Gerald now limits his practice to endodontics at Wine Street Dental, Sligo, and accepts referrals from other general dental practitioners in the North West region along with patient self-referrals. Dr O’Connor currently chairs the Irish Dental Association’s Quality and Patient Safety Committee. He lectures under the North West CPD Deanery and is a member of the American Academy of Endodontists, European Society of Endodontology as well as both the Irish and British Endodontic Associations. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with Rosemarie and their three kids as well as the occasional game of chess.
