At Wine Street Dental we’re committed to helping restore our patients’ happy smiles, which is why we offer a wide range of restorations including bridges.

What is a bridge?

A bridge is designed to replace a missing tooth – or in some cases, a few teeth.

FAQ

How does a bridge work?

A bridge uses the surrounding healthy teeth as support. There are several different types of bridges available, but in most cases, we will use the surrounding teeth as ‘anchors’ to the new prosthetic tooth/teeth. These will then be cemented in place to fill the gap.

What types of bridges are available?

As with all the treatments we offer here at Wine Street Dental, we’ll always talk through all your options with you beforehand. We’ll always help ensure you feel confident and assured in your decision and will advise you on which bridge we believe is most suitable for your situation.

Why do I need a bridge?

As mentioned, bridges are used to replace a missing tooth or teeth. At Wine Street Dental, we always recommend replacing missing teeth wherever possible. This is because missing teeth can lead to several different problems in the future including loss of bone, decay, and misalignment.

A missing tooth can also seriously negatively affect a patient’s smile, sense of self, and confidence. We want to help all our patients find their happiest smile yet, and in many cases, we can do this through the use of a bridge.

What is the treatment like?

Bridges are normally applied over two separate appointments. We’ll first prepare the anchor teeth in relation to the selected bridge design before taking an impression of your teeth. The impressions taken will then be used to construct the bridge. At this point, we’ll fit you with a temporary bridge to help protect your teeth and gums in the interim.

Once your bridge is ready, you’ll return here. We will first check the bridge to be sure the fit and bite are correct and most importantly that you are happy with it. We will then cement the bridge permanently in place.

How long do bridges last?

If taken care of properly, bridges can last between five and 15 years. Bridges do require some special care and attention, and we’ll get through all your immediate after-care and long-term care needs with you.
